THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF FUNDRAISING
SCOTTISH FUNDRAISING CONFERENCE

5th - 6th September 2023

The Chartered Institute of Fundraising in Scotland is pleased to announce the 2023 Scottish Fundraising Conference on the 5 and 6 September at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central.

The conference, once again presented with headline sponsor Johnston Mailing, is now searching for speakers to inspire the Scottish fundraising community.

Masterclasses speakers: Can you effectively share your learnings and help others to examine a single issue or discipline in greater depth? Masterclasses are delivered over two sessions allowing participants to discuss, listen and learn in more detail. We’d love to hear from you with our proposal.

Plenary speakers: Could you inspire a room full of fundraisers? We would  like to hear from those with a sector wide overview who can motivate delegates at the first sessions of the conference. Our delegates could be new to the sector or well established. You may want to challenge current thinking or tackle a particular issue.

Session speakers: Can you deliver an hour long session with innovative strategy or an insightful case study? The backbone of the conference, these hour long sessions take attendees through different areas of learning. Some might take a workshop format, others sharing case studies with learnings or delving into aa specific area of practice. Sessions will be aimed at practitioner, manager and strategic levels.

What we are looking for? The conference programme will offer a mix of one hour sessions, plenary sessions and two hour masterclasses in the following areas:

·       Community and Events

·       Marketing and Communications

·       Management and Strategy

·       Individual Giving and Legacies

·       Personal Development

·       Partnerships and philanthropy

·       Trusts

Organisers are particularly interested in sessions on:

·       Responding to the ongoing cost of living crisis

·       Legacy fundraising in small and medium sized charities

·       Supporter care

·       Donor focused fundraising

·       Growth and development of all income streams

·       Fundraising in small and medium sized charities or on a small budget

·       Leadership development

·       Career planning and owning your professional development

·       Successful digital fundraising

·       Collaborative working with other organisations

·       New fundraising initiatives

·       Recruitment and retention of staff in these challenging market conditions

In 2022 we had 77 speakers 55 whom spoke for the first time. We also offer free training support for speakers. The committee want to ensure that we are building a diverse and representative conference. We particularly welcome submissions from women in leadership, disabled people and members ethnic minority communities. If a disability or long term condition makes it difficult for you to apply, please contact us to discuss alternative formats.

The financial context that all organisations are likely to face over the next year will undoubtedly be challenging. The volunteer conference committee remain vigilant to the implications of high inflation and the rising costs of delivering the conference which have been significant. We plan to reduce conference fees for Chartered Institute of Fundraising members. As a charitable organisation itself, the conference is a not for profit event. If there is any surplus income from the conference is reinvested to deliver additional training and support opportunities to the members of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising in Scotland.

For our speakers we cover expenses for travel and accommodation where necessary. Speakers can also attend the conference for the full day on the day they are speaking and the second day at a nominal cost.
