1. Decided to take the “make a coffee” option? Why not try instead:

  • Green Tea – contains powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants are known to protect the body against disease and are an important part of a healthy diet.
  • Red Bush (Rooibos) Tea – naturally decaffeinated and refreshing. Also has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and muscle relaxant properties which are vital to calm down allergies and keep the body healthy.
  • Pour a large glass of iced water – stay hydrated.
  • Hot water with lemon – good for a cleanse.
  • Stop on-screen e-mail alerts and schedule times when you don’t look at your e-mails. Distraction can be avoided.

2. Are you really going to check your emails now? If so, why not use the time to:

3. Homeschooling

  • Give them (and you!) rewards for today's achievements.
  • Can this wait until tomorrow now, school day is nearly done?

4. Meditation session

  • Find an app that works for you. "Calm" is a subscription model but is very good – there are plenty of others (some free).
  • Do breathing exercises. E.g. Breathe in through your nose for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds. Breathe out through your mouth for 5 seconds, hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 6 or 7 times – you will be amazed by how you feel! Do it when you feel stressed or anxious. Most meditation starts with a breathing exercise.

5. Move!

  • Do some squats, then run up and down the stairs a few times and finish with a 30 second plank (all sounds ambitious, but use your 19 minutes wisely).
  • Open your front door and look up to the sky, take it in.

6. Celebrate!

  • Jot down your personal best for today and acknowledge you are achieving something every day, no matter how small it seems...it is an achievement and deserves you recognising this for yourself.
